Suma Care develops welfare technological solutions directed at a wide range of target groups: Institutions, relatives, caring personnel, different types of users and business partners; public as well private.
Wear&Care® is our first solution, which will arrive on the market during 2018. Wear&Care® is an intelligent solution designed to make enhance the care for and dignity for people suffering from incontinence. At the same time, Wear&Care® is able to help optimizing working and living conditions for users and their caring personnel, reduce resource spending for our partners amongst other parameters. The goal is to create better quality care for the same amount of resources.
The welfare state; priorities in the public sector and the choice between public institutions and private alternatives are constantly up for debate. No matter the ideology behind the different choices, there is one goal that everyone wants to achieve: Better value for your money. The significance of this goal are more important than ever with the current economic crisis; it will be even more prominent with the sweeping demographic changes in many first world countries that leaves fewer young people to take care of a growing population of elderlies.
Intelligent welfare technology is not the entire answer – far from it, and technology can never replace human care. However, welfare technology is a part of the solution and it can actually help with freeing up human resources and improving the welfare – without raising the cost.
Wear&Care® is one example of this technology and a good example if you ask us! It is developed for a growing group of people suffering from incontinence, and therefore for the all the institutions that cares for this group of people.
Wear&Care® is groundbreaking due to its simple functionality and its unique advantages..
Better quality of life for the users
The tests focused on improving the working environment for the caring personnel, without lowering the service level.
The preliminary results looks promising, and shows the following:
- Wear&Care® can reduce the number of problematic moves by the personnel.
- The residents experience fewer disturbances at night, this is contributing to a better nights sleep and thereby also to a better quality of life.
Users and relatives
When a person’s ability to function is limited due to advanced age, sickness, handicaps or just plain bad luck then it will of course affect this person. Affect the dignity and the freedom, on a daily basis even, but it will also affect the relatives. Incontinence is no gentler than any other disease.
Wear&Care® cannot cure incontinence, but it can simplify managing the problem and increase quality of life for the affected and the relatives. No matter whether the user lives in an institution or at home.
How? By limiting the amount of diaper changes, anticipate when they will take place. Wear&Care® will also help collect information about the individual user, information usable to prevent rashes and other discomforts associated with suboptimal diaper usage.
The DaneAge Association supports our cause
While we have developed and tested Wear&Care®, we have also been in dialogue with the DaneAge Association and they fortunately supports our vision and solution.
“DaneAge Association thinks that diapers must be used with dignity in nursing homes and hospitals. We work to spread the so-called call-up diapers, which notifies the personnel when a diaper change is necessary, in the Danish caring sector. This is about the elderly’s quality of life.” – Margrethe Kähler, chief consultant at DaneAge Association.
Users in private homes
Wear&Care® is easy to install and operate on a daily basis. This allows users living at home and self-supporting users to take advantage of Wear&Care® with little or no help from assisting caring personnel, maybe a little help from their relatives is sufficient?
This means that more users can remain in their own home for a longer time. This will not only their well-being but also increase the freedom for both users and relatives, as well as reducing resource spending for the relevant caring partners be it private or public.
In other words: More dignity and increased quality of life for fewer resources.
A daily life with more dignity
Incontinence comes, more often than not, with age, an estimated 20% or more of the population above the age of 65 years are affected. A number of diseases and handicaps can also lead to you to diaper usage. 50,000 adults in Denmark are estimated to require help on a daily basis, to treat their incontinence. Wear&Care® has a potential to increase the quality of life for this large group of citizens, by minimizing the inconveniences related to diaper usage. Wear&Care® can remove the need to continuously check the diaper for content, amongst other functionalities.
Wear&Care® gives self-reliant citizens a better opportunity to follow their diaper usage, and decide when they wish to change the diaper. They can follow the level of fluid in the diaper on a smartphone or tablet, and thereby receive notice when it is full. This will give them more personal freedom and dignity.
The possibility to control your own diaper, and plan the diaper changes, affords the most self-reliant citizens the option to continue living in their own home, instead of relocation to a nursing home. This comes with the freedom to visit friends and family without the fear of inappropriate situations, as Wear&Care® can be set to notify you well before the diaper is full, so the user has time to call for assistance or reach the comfort of their own home. Again, this affords them greater freedom and independence.
