Fewer redundant diaper changes, fewer personnel transfers, fewer confrontations, more smiles and even more care. That is the simple and tested goal of Wear&Care®.
Wear&Care® monitors and diaper changes and thereby allows adjustment of the diaper changes and –sizes to fit the individual user. This frees up resources better used on core services such personal care, which, no matter what, will give the personnel better working conditions. Without reducing the service level for the users mind you.
All of this are advantages that combined will create a beneficial effect on the psychological and the physical working environment.
This is how it works
Wear&Care® is a small sensor that registers the amount of fluid in the diaper. When the fluid in the diaper has reached a predetermined level, a small transmitter, located on the outside of the diaper, notifies personnel that the diaper needs to be changed. This eliminates the need for continuous diaper checks and insures that the diaper is changed at the right time.
To change the diaper at exactly the right time, not too early and not too late, provides many advantages to users and related personnel. The users are comfortable and feel more dignified. The personnel saves time and effort on unnecessary diaper changes and it enables them to cut down on confrontations with users who do not like to get their diaper changed.
Wear&Care® will also positively affect the resources spent and the amount of care possible to give in the given institution. The reason for this is that the solution makes it easier to plan the diaper change, adapt the diaper size and optimize the diaper procurements with the user’s factual needs.
New test results looks promising
We are now done with the second part of our test course focused on the working environment of the caring personnel. The test is set at the caring home Skansebakken south of Vejle.
The results, so far, seems to follow the positive trends from our previous test (Test in Copenhagen). Our goal of reducing the number of unnecessary moves and disturbances of the users in connection with diaper changes, seems to be achievable.
The DaneAge Association supports our cause
While we have developed and tested Wear&Care®, we have also been in dialogue with the DaneAge Association and they fortunately supports our vision and solution.
“DaneAge Association thinks that diapers must be used with dignity in nursing homes and hospitals. We work to spread the so-called call-up diapers, which notifies the personnel when a diaper change is necessary, in the Danish caring sector. This is about the elderly’s quality of life.” – Margrethe Kähler, chief consultant at DaneAge Association.
Working environment test in Copenhagen
The tests focused on improving the working environment for the caring personnel, without lowering the service level.
The preliminary results looks promising, and shows the following:
- Wear&Care® can reduce the number of problematic moves by the personnel.
- The residents experience fewer disturbances at night, this is contributing to a better nights sleep and thereby also to a better quality of life.
The test and the results will be verified in a comparable test at the caring home Skansebakken.
